May 5, 2025 Quotes from Laudato Si, on preservation of our common home by Pope Francis. Call to action to prevent strange proposal from becoming law. The proposal by several government agencies is an attempt to alter the meaning of the Endangered Species Act. Clearly loss of habitat is harm to wildlife and no tampering with the Act and the word “harm” can change that fact.

Annoula Wylderich appointed to Clark County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife, representing non-traditional hunters. Notice: WildEarthGuardians, Mountain Lion Foundation and Nevada Wildlife Alliance have put together a petition regarding incidental trapping of mountain lions by fur trappers that is now before the wildlife commission. We are Agenda Item #9 on the Friday, January 24th, 2025 schedule. The meeting will be held in Reno at the Washoe County Commission chambers.

TRU, 135-pound dog, protector of his family, trapped near Walmart/Kohl’s Spanish Springs shopping center. It took personnel from Sheriff’s Office and Animal Services plus owner Erin Myrick’s family, to get TRU to vet – with trap still attached to his paw. Again neighbors are outraged; hopefully this will lead to citizen action.

Dog, Sadie, Trapped near Spanish Springs High School. Confusion about laws and jurisdiction. Owner Michael Lowe suffered hand injuries. Neighbor comments. Another case proving need for warning signs and tighter restrictions, if not an outright ban, on trapping.

Proposed Winecup Gamble Ranch Land Exchange would close off public access, threaten critical wildlife habitat, and reserve this huge block of public land which will primarily benefit the ranch over public interest. Wildlife Watchers are strongly encouraged to send emails to Nevada Wildlife Commission.
August 19, 2023 Roxie, our neighborhood raccoon, survives and is out and about with her 4 kits despite her amputated front paw. It’s rewarding to see a neighborhood join together in support and sympathy. This newsletter issue includes some general raccoon facts which hopefully will inspire awe and admiration so well deserved by this indomitable species.
July 30, 2023 Update on trapped raccoon. She chewed off her front paw. This mama raccoon still has kits following her and now she is disabled and in danger of infection. Outrage and grief not only toward the cold-hearted person who set the trap, but toward a system that offers no help in a situation like this.
July 27, 2023 Raccoon trapped in Residential Neighborhood. Yes, it is illegal to set traps in a residential neighborhood. And we are not finding significant help to locate the poor raccoon and take the trap off her leg. We’ll follow this story until we get some help!
